Highlights of the Rainbow Mountain Day Tour

Join us on this unforgettable journey through wild desert landscapes, snow-capped peaks, and herds of alpacas, leading to the stunning Rainbow Mountain, hidden deep in the Andes.

Rainbow Mountain, or Vinicunca, formed through the movement of tectonic plates over the past 24 million years. As a result, unique vertical ridges created a striking triangular shape, which gives the mountain its iconic appearance. The mountain comprises various sedimentary rocks, including sandstone, halite, gravel, and clay, each with different densities. Over time, these rocks compressed, forming the vibrant layered colors we see today. Due to its high elevation of 16,520 feet (5,000 meters), vegetation is sparse, while wind and weather continuously polish the exposed rock, enhancing its breathtaking beauty.

Tour Highlights:

Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain): Marvel at the rainbow-colored geological formations of this natural wonder, a surreal sight that captivates visitors from all over the globe.

Local Communities: Along the trail, meet the indigenous Quechua communities and gain unique insights into their culture, traditions, and way of life in the high Andes.

Ausangate: Admire the towering, snow-capped peak of Ausangate, the highest mountain in the Cusco region. This majestic peak provides a dramatic backdrop for the Rainbow Mountain adventure.

Scenic Hike: Trek through stunning Andean landscapes, where snow-capped peaks, alpine lakes, and grazing llamas create the perfect setting for explorers.
