Your journey begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Cusco at 5:30 AM. From there, you’ll embark on a scenic, three-and-a-half-hour drive to Upis town, the trailhead for your trek. Upon arrival in Upis, you’ll meet your local horseman and horses, preparing for the adventure ahead. Next, you’ll begin your trek with a gradual uphill hike for about two hours and thirty minutes, following the highland valley, home to llamas and alpacas. This path leads you to Pamparapa (4,600m / 15,092ft), where you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch with a breathtaking view of Ausangate Mountain in the backdrop.
After lunch, you’ll continue your hike for another three and a half hours, gradually ascending to your first campsite, Yana Qocha (4,650m / 15,256ft). The trail offers spectacular highland scenery, with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. Before reaching camp, you’ll tackle Arapa Pass (4,800m / 15,748ft), where you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of eroded mountains and highland valleys. Following this, you’ll descend for about an hour and a half to Yana Qocha, the perfect campsite to rest after a challenging day.

Continuing on, after hiking for about an hour and a half, you’ll start ascending on a switchback trail to the next pass at 5,000m / 16,404ft. From this pass, enjoy dramatic vistas of the Vilcanota range, colorful hills, and the glacier peaks. Next, you’ll hike downhill to your lunch spot in Ananta (4,650m / 15,256ft).
Following lunch, you’ll continue trekking uphill for two hours to reach the next pass, Warmisaya (5,000m / 16,404ft). At this point, you’ll catch your first glimpse of Rainbow Mountain in the distance, with views remaining impressive throughout.
Finally, the last section is a thirty-minute descent to your second campsite, Qomer Qocha (4,680m / 15,354ft). All meals are included during the trek.
The final day of your trek is all about Rainbow Mountain! From the Qomer Qocha campsite, you’ll begin hiking uphill for an hour and a half to reach your final destination. Upon arrival, take your time to savor this unique place and enjoy the breathtaking views. Afterward, you’ll walk down the valley to your next lunch spot.
Following lunch, it’s time to say goodbye to your muleteers and cooks, marking the end of your trek. Finally, you’ll drive back to Cusco and be dropped off at your hotel. Although this trek may be shorter, it is sure to leave you with lifetime memories!
