Day 1: Cusco – Lares – Wakawasi: A Warm Welcome to the Andes

We will depart early from Cusco in a comfortable private van, traversing the picturesque Sacred Valley  and stopping in Calcavfor an opportunity to purchase thoughtful gifts for the local families. Arriving in Lares, we will immerse ourselves in the therapeutic natural hot springs, a perfect way to acclimatize and prepare for the trek. After a revitalizing lunch, we’ll begin our 4-hour hike to Wakawasi,  observing llama herders, traditional weaving techniques, and the stunning Andean landscape. This day emphasizes experiencing traditional Andean life and appreciating the natural beauty that surrounds us. We will camp in Wakawasi, enjoying a delicious dinner under a starlit sky.

Day 2: Wakawasi – Ipsayccocha Pass – Patacancha: Reaching New Heights, Discovering Ancient History

After a hearty breakfast, we will embark on a challenging 4-hour uphill trek to Ipsayccocha Pass (4,400m / 14,435ft), the highest point of our trek, where we’ll learn about ancient Inca history and the spiritual significance of the Apus (holy mountains) from our expert guide. We’ll enjoy a well-deserved lunch next to a pristine glacial lake before descending for another 4 hours to Patacancha. Patacancha is a beautiful rural village where textile production thrives amidst rich farmland. Today, we appreciate the history and stunning natural beauty while pushing ourselves physically. We will camp in Patacancha, ready for a day of cultural exchange.

Day 3: Patacancha – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes: Sharing Cultures, Preparing for Machu Picchu

Today offers an unparalleled opportunity to immerse ourselves in the daily life of the Patacancha villagers. We will participate in traditional activities like textile dyeing and weaving demonstrations, learning about sustainable corn and potato farming techniques, and animal husbandry. We will witness firsthand how these communities cultivate the land and produce textiles using ancestral methods, contributing directly to the preservation of their cultural heritage. After sharing a delicious Peruvian meal with our host family, we will transfer to Ollantaytambo and take the afternoon train to Aguas Calientes. This day is about building relationships and supporting local economies. We will check into our hotel in Aguas Calientes and enjoy a restful evening in anticipation of visiting Machu Picchu.

Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco: Unveiling the Lost City, Reflecting on the Journey

An early start takes us by bus to the main gate of Machu Picchu. We will embark on a comprehensive 3-hour guided tour of Machu Picchu, led by one of our passionate experts, revealing the fascinating history, architectural marvels, and profound significance of this iconic Incan citadel. In the afternoon, we will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes, giving you time to relax, have lunch, and perhaps enjoy some last-minute souvenir shopping and take the train to Ollantaytambo where a private bus will be waiting to transfer us back to our hotel in Cusco. This day is about experiencing the wonder of Machu Picchu after our immersion in Andean culture.
